NORCROSS, Ga., Aug. 8 — SurgiLance, the designer and manufacturer of the SurgiLance One-Step Safety Lancet, has announced that it has been granted patent protection on its lancet design from the European Patent Office (EPO).

The company’s safety lancet design has similar protection in both the United States and Singapore.

“The European patent now makes it possible to continue our expansion into the various countries comprising the EU,” said SurgiLance CEO Patrick Yi. “As the breadth of this medical product distribution network increases in size, it is imperative that we protect our intellectual property to safeguard our interests and that of our distribution partners in the EU.”

SurgiLance currently has distributors within the United Kingdom, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain and Slovenia.

This release was published prior to MediPurpose changing its name from its prior company name — SurgiLance — in 2006.
