SurgiLance™ Adopts EDI Technology for Medical Product Ordering

NORCROSS, Ga., Dec. 19 — SurgiLance Inc., the designer and manufacturer of the SurgiLance Safety Lancet, has announced that the company has implemented an electronic data interchange solution (EDI) in order to streamline medical product ordering processes and overall business operations.

B2B Gateway will be the solution provider for the new technology.

What is EDI?

EDI is the process of transferring formatted data between computer systems via a secure third-party network. This allows companies transferring large amounts of information to do so quickly and efficiently, saving time and cutting back on operational costs.

Although the technology has existed for nearly 20 years, its use is becoming more prevalent as more and more companies get connected to the Internet. EDI is becoming increasingly important as an easy mechanism for companies to buy, sell, and trade information.

Within the healthcare industry, EDI is becoming increasingly popular as a method of data exchange between medical professionals and insurance companies, as well as between medical device distributors and their suppliers.

Jay Skeggs, who headed up the project for SurgiLance, said, “EDI will help us to streamline and increase accuracy of our order fulfillment and logistics processes. As a result, we expect to further strengthen both customer and vendor relations.
