31 Aug MediPlus™ Advanced Wound Care Products Receive HCPCS Codes
ATLANTA, Aug. 31 — MediPurpose, a master distributor and manufacturer of medical products, today announced that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has confirmed HCPCS reimbursement codes for its MediPlus™ advanced wound care products.
The codes allow healthcare providers to bill for the wound care dressings, effective immediately.
HCPCS (Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System) was established in 1978 to provide a standardized coding system for describing the specific items and services provided in the delivery of health care.
HCPCS codes are used by Medicare and monitored by CMS. They are based on the Current Procedural Technology (CPT) codes developed by the American Medical Association.
“Wound dressings and other medical supplies cannot be reimbursed through Medicare without set HCPCS codes,” said MediPurpose Vice President Advanced Wound Care Michael Riddle. “Additionally, most private health insurance companies follow the lead of Medicare with these types of medical products.”
Riddle added, “With reimbursement in place and product arriving in our distribution center, we are confident that demand for our MediPlus™ line will be strong.”
