MediPurpose Introduces SurgiLance™ Lite 28-Gauge Safety Lancets

28-Gauge Fingerstick Devices are ‘Ideal Solutions’ for Glucose Testing and Low-Volume Blood Collections

ATLANTA and SINGAPORE—MediPurpose, a medical product manufacturer and master distributor, today introduced its new SurgiLance™ Lite 28-gauge safety lancets.

An expansion to MediPurpose’s flagship SurgiLance™ safety lancet portfolio, SurgiLance Lite features a new form factor that is slimmer than the “classic” SurgiLance, and its thinner 28-gauge needle is engineered to minimize pain when performing frequent low-volume blood collections, such as for glucose testing.

Available in three models, SurgiLance Lite devices are differentiated by their cartridge colors and penetration depths, which include the:

  • SLL140 (yellow/1.4 mm)
  • SLL180 (gray/1.8 mm)
  • SLL220 (orange/2.2 mm)

As with the classic SurgiLance, SurgiLance Lite safety lancets are sterile, pre-armed and single-use needlestick devices that prevent accidental sharps injuries before and after activation.

Finding the ‘Sweet Spot’ Between Safety Lancet Needle Gauges and Penetration Depths

SurgiLance Lite is MediPurpose’s response to customer feedback that indicated a desire for 28-gauge safety lancets that provided the same comfort, ease of use and safety for which the SurgiLance brand has become known since its launch in 1999, said MediPurpose founder and CEO Patrick Yi.

“In recent years, 28-gauge safety lancets have become increasingly popular because their needles are extremely thin and minimizes pain, which is a very preferable quality for frequent fingerstick users that only require a minimal amount of blood,” said Yi.

However, the challenge for safety lancet manufacturers and users has been to find an optimal “sweet spot” of needle thickness and depth so that it minimizes pain but delivers adequate blood volumes, said Yi.

Until now, the SurgiLance SLN100—which has a 21-gauge needle and a 1.0 mm penetration depth—has been MediPurpose’s primary recommendation for frequent low-volume users, said Yi.

“SurgiLance Lite changes that because it now gives customers more choices,” said Yi. “Its three penetration depths provide a comprehensive range of options for 28-gauge safety lancet selection. We believe that SurgiLance Lite offers ideal solutions for this market segment, and we will continue to listen to our customers to potentially introduce models with other preferred penetration depths and needle gauges.”

“We are very proud of the new SurgiLance Lite, and we are looking forward to it earning the same worldwide popularity as the classic SurgiLance,” said Yi.

SurgiLance Lite is currently available in the United States only, but will be available in Canada and EMEA/LA in July 2016.
