HCPCS Reimbursement Codes Announced for MediPlus™ Silicone Wound Dressings

The announcement is the fourth tranche of HCPCS codes for MediPurpose’s advanced wound care products

ATLANTA and SINGAPORE—MediPurpose™, a manufacturer and master distributor of medical products, today announced that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has confirmed HCPCS reimbursement codes for two of its new MediPlus™ Silicone Comfort Foam dressings.

HCPCS code A612 allows healthcare providers to bill for the 3×3-inch (MP7575SLCF) and 4×4-inch (MP1010SLCF) soft silicone dressings, and HCPCS code A613 does the same for the 6×6-inch (MP1515SLCF) and sacral 7.2×7.2-inch (MP222SLCF) dressings, effective immediately.

The announcement is the fourth tranche of HCPCS codes for MediPurpose’s advanced wound care products. In 2011, MediPurpose announced that it had received its first HCPCS reimbursement codes for the original MediPlus™ portfolio. That was followed by similar announcements in 2012 for its silver foam (Ag+) dressings and alginate dressings.

HCPCS (Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System) was established in 1978 to provide a standardized coding system for describing the specific items and services provided in the delivery of health care.

HCPCS codes are used by Medicare and monitored by CMS. They are based on the Current Procedural Technology (CPT) codes developed by the American Medical Association.

“Wound dressings and other medical supplies cannot be reimbursed through Medicare without HCPCS codes,” said MediPurpose Executive Vice President and CCO Michael Riddle. “Additionally, most private health insurance companies follow the lead of Medicare with these types of medical products.”

About MediPlus™ Advanced Wound Care Silicone Comfort Foam Dressings

Introduced in January 2014 as an expansion to the MediPlus™ Advanced Wound Care portfolio, the new foam dressings feature a bordered silicone adhesive. They are available in four commonly used sizes: 3×3 inches, 4×4 inches, 6×6 inches, and 7.2 x 7.2 inches (sacral).

Suitable for most indications (excluding third-degree burns and infected wounds), the adhesive properties of soft silicone are especially important to help anchor and protect the wound bed, its surrounding skin, and to help decrease the pain associated with dressing changes.
