WIEN, Austria and ATLANTA, Aug. 3—MediPurpose^®, a master distributor and manufacturer of medical devices, today announced the launch of its new, babyLance^® infant heel incision device in Austria.

The new babyLance infant heelstick is a fully redesigned iteration of MediPurpose’s original safe, easy and effective heelstick device.

Used by neonatal caregivers to collect blood samples from infants, the new babyLance features an ergonomic design to provide a secure and stable grip. Combined with a redesigned trigger mechanism, the device is easy to activate, helping to deliver a consistent incision without touching the baby’s tender nerve fibers. These design changes were initiated based upon customer input and have been the subject of significant laboratory and clinical testing.

babyLance will be distributed in Austria by Medikus, MediPurpose’s exclusive Austrian medical product distributor for its lancet product family, which also includes SurgiLance^® safety lancets.

Medikus will be distributing both versions of the babyLance heelstick device:

• The babyLance BLN (Newborn), which delivers an incision depth of 1.00 mm.
• The babyLance BLP (Preemie), which delivers an incision depth of 0.85 mm.
